A Magnificent Large Slipware Baking Bowl, Either Midlands or North of England, Mid-To-Late 18th C.
Description
Here we have a most wonderful and rare loaf dish with a superb patina decorated with highly skilled slipware decoration of lines and waves created with a rapid deft touch.
A heavy and substantial bowl, it has been obviously used for a multitude of farmhouse kitchen preparations, mixing, prooving and baking. As for provenance, could be Staffordshire, Yorkshire or possibly Buckley, North Wales, there is work to do here.
An extraordinary survivor of large ovens and centuries of use, just a fabulous thing.
