A catalogue of ‘Astbury Figures’, collated and published by the Cyril Andrade auction house. Containing biographical and historical information on John Astbury and his son Thomas Astbury, who produced their famous English earthenware pottery in Staffordshire in the eighteenth century. Often credited with initiating improvements in the production of earthenware, the pair are also well known for their distinctive ‘Astbury figures’, depicting men, birds and animals, decorated in coloured slip. An uncommon copy, limited to five hundred copies only. Collated, complete with thirty-one monochromatic photographic illustrations ‘of a unique collection exhibited at the Dalmeny Galleries’.
