Bradford Museums – A History of Local Potteries by Graham Wilkinson
Description
The triangular area of the old West Riding of Yorkshire roughly defined by the towns of Keighley, Bradford, Elland and Halifax, has since the mid-seventeenth century seen the establishment, growth and sadly, the decline and eventual disappearance of a number of celebrated country potteries.
The domestic Slipwares and salt-glazed stonewares made locally represented the 17th, 18th and 19th century flowering of an extraordinarily English Folk Art.
This now rare booklet brought together the result of several year’s research by Graham Wilkinson the then-curator of Cliffe Castle Museum, Keighley, into the history and development of this country pottery tradition. An essential research and reference work.
A favourite and much-read book of mine over the years as this is where my roots lie, and Graham was a friend of mine.
