Slipware Shoe Moneybox, Bridgewater, Somerset, West Country, England, 19th C.
Description
A delightful child’s Moneybox made in the form of a workman’s clog.
Hand-made and moulded in a coarse pale terracotta fabric with a heavy iron content resulting in a speckled Galena glaze, with impressed details of lace holes, tongue, sole and stitching. A rare survivor as these moneyboxes were cheaply made for children to learn the importance of thrift, but were often broken to remove the accrued wealth from the box.
