A Rare Slipware Agate Puzzle Jug, Halifax, Old West Riding of Yorkshire, England, Late 19th C.
Description
Today we have a wonderful solid agateware documentary puzzle jug made for T. Smith in 1891, made by the Kitson’s of Woodman House and Blackley, or their descendants.
Thrown on the wheel with high-quality agate striations with three spouts, everything handmade and assembled when the clay had stiffened, by a highly skilled potter. Superb.
These fabulous puzzle jugs were produced in and around Halifax for centuries.
