Description
A rare large slipware King Charles Spaniel press moulded pottery dog, taken with a plaster cast from a Staffordshire pottery original, creating a perfect copy (the country potters were determined to keep up with the fashions being generated from Staffordshire!)
Beautifully decorated with slip and manganese dots with chain and ears picked out in slip producing a charming country pottery version of a King Charles Spaniel. Uncommon, especially in this condition. Made in North Devon by Charles Brannam and known there in the late 19th C. as Barnstaple Dogs.
