A Farnham Greenware Owl Jug and Bowl, Surrey, England
Description
Here we have for sale two fine and rare greenware pieces from Farnham, Surrey, an owl jug and a three-sided bowl with faces to each side making a superb pair, both exquisite rarities and highly desirable for collectors in this condition.
Made by Absalom and William Freemantle Harris, brothers at the Farnham Potteries, who made a wide variety of ornamental wares including animals, produced during the late 19th century.
The most popular glaze-ware items during this period of the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau were those with owl faces.
A large range of Farnham wares made in the traditions of the Medieval greenwares, including the owl jugs, appear in the Liberty & Co. catalogues of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Wonderful.
