A Pottery Wesleyan Chapel Moneybox, Mexborough, England, 1822
Description
A superb Prattware Wesleyan Chapel moneybox, produced in the small south Yorkshire village of Mexborough in the early 19th century. This is the earliest date we have seen for one of these delightful and rare moneyboxes and feel this must represent the burgeoning of this charming range of banks.
Two Putti protect the building, flanking the doorways. There are three windows above them and “Wesleyan Chapel, 1822” in between the doors.
