Here we have a rare and delightful documentary Hen and Chickens slipware ornamental top hat tobacco jar, complete with tamper (a weight for keeping the tobacco moist inside the pot), in the past an essential part of relaxation in everyday life for working men.
Made at this date, by the Kitsons of Woodman House, Elland and Ainley Top, Halifax, Yorkshire, sliptrailed “Charles Broadhurst 1882”. Wonderful.
