By Potter’s Art and Skill – Pottery by the Fishleys of Fremington, North Devon, England
Authors – Emmeline Leary and Jeremy Pearson
Description
A rare opportunity to purchase a copy of this wonderful, scarce and fragile, but significant booklet of the travelling exhibition in 1984 of the work of the Fishleys of Fremington, North Devon. ‘By Potter’s Art and Skill’ – an exhibition held at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter, 3 May-16 June and at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, 25 June-5 August 1984.
This account provides a fascinating glimpse of life in an age when craftsmanship and skill were highly valued and the Fishleys sometimes turned from the routine production of domestic, farm and garden pots to more individual and decorative pieces, some of which are to be seen in this exhibition, the first one ever to be devoted to their work.
Edition – Only Edition
Softback – Large Format
Date – 1984
Condition – Overall good, clean condition, except for a partial separation of the very thin cover up to the first staple. A wonderful booklet, but a victim of economical production values. Some strengthening of the spine with a clear matt tape or similar might be in order to ensure future stability, this should be a very straightforward procedure, but we did not wish to attempt it ourselves.
