A Rare Puzzle Jug, Possibly Shropshire, England, March 7th 1868
Description
Here we have a superb puzzle jug of Midlands origin, possibly with a Shropshire attribution.
With unusual and interesting finely carved “f-holes” as would be seen in a violin. This puzzle jug may have been a gift for a musician.
Expertly thrown and constructed by a master potter, a rare thing.
The lettering is inlaid in the ‘sgraffito’ style and reads “Thomas Banks, March 7/68”.
